Be Alert about Stroke Headache Before It Is
Too Late

Stroke headache is the deadliest of all types of headaches that mankind faces. God forbid, if you had ever been a victim of stroke, you know about the intensity of stroke headache that precedes the deadly attack.

However, you might be unaware that there exists a relationship between headache, migraine and stroke and the relationship is quite complex.

Headache precedes stroke. With aging, the prevalence of migraine subsides and the probability of stroke increases. Besides migraine, additional risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes and heart ailments can induce stroke.

In case of subarachnoid haemorrhage, headache occurs at the onset of stroke. In case of intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) aches might occur at the onset or may appear a bit later. In some cases of ICH, headaches might not appear at all.

While suffering from migraine, some people get frightened as if they are about to experience stroke. You need to know about the basic differences between the two.

A migraine is a type of headache caused by spasms of the arteries within the head. On the contrary, stroke interrupts the flow of blood into the brain. The cells of the affected areas are killed immediately and those surrounding the affected area are also largely affected.

Migraine does not result in damage of the brain, while stroke can cause minor to severe brain damage. In extreme cases, stroke can be fatal.

Stoke headache is very rapid at the outset and you should be on the alert. Remember, sudden onset of stroke headache on one side of your face or body might indicate stroke. If you are an elderly person, take care.

The earlier you reach the hospital, greater chances you have to prevent permanent brain damage.

Do you know that people with migraine are 80% more likely to suffer from strokes?

Sometimes people might take headaches lightly while actually they are going to suffer from serious strokes.

Take care of your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Eat the healthy way and do not forget to exercise. Hypertension, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis can lead you towards stroke. Meditation can be a preventive measure to combat stroke.

If you are a woman with migraine, note that according to a study, the risk of stroke cases per 100000 is 4.2. If you are a smoker, quit smoking immediately. Else you might well experience stroke headache anytime.

Regular usage of oral contraceptives can also lead to stroke headache. In that case, switch over to some other forms of birth control.

If you are suffering from recurrent migraine, consult your physician immediately for suitable treatment.

Ensure that what you think as migraine is not stroke headache in disguise. Keep your doctor’s and ambulance phone numbers ready at hand.
