Stress Headaches

Stress headaches are the commonest of all headaches that people suffer from.

You or your closed ones must have been victims to this common ailment at times.

Besides stress, headaches can have umpteen sources including flu, sinus infection and migraine.

When headaches are not accompanied by additional symptoms like nausea, most likely it will be stress-induced.

Do you know that stress headaches, alternatively called tension headaches, constitute more than 75% of headaches that people suffer from?

Stress headaches are typically characterized by a throbbing ache, usually affecting both sides of your head. Such headaches tend to trouble you occasionally or even frequently at times.

When you suffer from tension headache, you experience a constant dull aching on both sides of your head. You might also experience a tight feeling in your head and neck muscle regions.

The tension headaches usually begin slowly and gradually gain momentum. You might at times start experiencing tension-induced headaches from the middle of the day itself.

In most cases, tension headaches tend to be mild to moderate in severity and rarely they aggravate out of proportion.

Other symptoms of tension headaches include muscle aching, headache upon awakening, chronic fatigue, irritable behaviour and dizziness.

You might become curious to know about the causes of stress headaches. These headaches are not hereditary in nature.

Most people experience the headache due to the tightened muscle at the back of the neck and scalp.

Both environmental and internal factors can cause tension headaches. Disturbances at family, workplace, relationships and academic failure can drive you towards stress-induced headaches.

Daily stresses can also lead you towards chronic tension headaches.

The treatment of such headaches is varied. The commonest headache relievers are non-prescription medications like aspirin and ibuprofen sold over the counter. However, when the severity is considerable, prescribed medications are given.

You might also look for preventive therapies like stress management and biofeedback therapies.

In order to prevent stress headaches, you must learn to manage your time well. Think of the entire job at hand and schedule your tasks accordingly.

Give due priorities to the more urgent ones. Give enough time to each task. You will feel a sense of accomplishment instead of stress.

Secondly, learn to cope up with stress. Stress is a routine aspect. Cultivate the habit to ignore it. At times, give vent to your feelings and emotions to your spouse or loved ones.

Lastly, in order to prevent stress headaches, develop a healthy lifestyle consisting a good eating habit. Try to consume balanced diet regularly with plenty of water.

Have a good night’s sleep and off course don’t forget to exercise regularly.
