How To Cure
Occular Migraines

Occular migraines are linked to the eyes, which may or may not be accompanied by a headache.

Hence, it can be said that this type of migraine is more closely associated with the vision, than with the brain.

Occular migraines usually attack one eye at a time and appear like a blind spot in the peripheral region.

In about five to ten minutes, the blind spot spreads out to the entire peripheral region.

This leads to complete blindness or object fuzziness. At this time, reading or writing becomes almost a difficult task. A dull and throbbing headache is usually accompanied by the migraine.

Unlike the traditional migraine, occular migraines attack, when the blood supply is reduced to the vision center of the brain.

But like the traditional migraine, there are certain triggers, which are responsible for the ocular migraine. These incorporate stress, anxiety, chocolate, travel, lack of sleep and artificial sweeteners.

The Causes of Occular Migraines
The real reason for this type of migraine is still a question of debate. However, the most convincing explanation is the vascular spasm that affects the occular blood vessel, which is supplying blood to the vision center of the brain.

The other reasons for the ocular migraine are pinned down on oral contraceptives, stress, alcohol, premenstrual changes, alcohol, chocolates, red wines, chicken livers, meat preserved in milk and nitrates.

The Symptoms you will notice
Sudden attack of this type of migraine disrupts the normal vision largely. At the first stage of the ocular migraine, the victim will face visual disturbance in his or her peripheral vision in the form of semi circular light, jagged and shimmering light, objects in pale pastel color.

In quite a few minutes, it becomes centric to the area of vision leading to a temporary, patchy vision loss. However, in 15 to 30 minutes, the zig zag patterns leave the field of vision and clears the vision area.

The Treatments for Occular Migraines
Doctors usually prescribe painkillers for the debilitating pain. Remember, that prevention is the best way of avoiding ocular migraine. Try to avoid the triggers, by keeping the stress level down. Make sure that you get enough sleep for a day and maintain a proper routine.

Some drugs that are commonly prescribed by the doctor incorporate Sumatriptan, Zolmitriptan and naratriptan. However, there are certain over-the-counter medications, which you can seek to.

It is said that occular migraines cannot be cured forever, but surely you can improve the condition by adopting a more regularized and stress free lifestyle.
