Do You Suffer From Headaches After Meal?

Many people experience severe headaches after meal. It has been observed that a heavy meal comprising a variety of foods often sets off a bout of nagging headache.

This, researches say, is due to the warring chemicals in the various foods and can be effectively dealt with by the intake of two to three simple dishes in the accompaniment of bread and spread with some fresh salad.

These findings have led the scientists to attribute the origin of acute headaches after meal to diet-related problems.

Diet-related causes of headaches, again, are of different types. In fact, the effect is entirely dependent on how the human system behaves to a certain food item.

Thus, while some foods instigate allergic reactions (that ultimately trigger headaches), the sudden discontinuation of other food items may prompt headaches.

Accordingly, migraine headaches are often caused by the intake of chocolate, certain fruits like avocado, banana and citrus fruits, diary products, onions, peanut butter, wheat, etc.

In fact, this headache is due to intolerance to certain constituents in the food. Foods containing the amino acid tyramine (found in aged cheese, chicken livers, red wine, smoked fish, yeast extracts, etc.) bring on a bad headache.

Similarly, food additives like flavor enhancers and preservatives trigger headaches. On the other hand, the complete and abrupt withdrawal of caffeine also leads to withdrawal headaches.

Studies reveal that the different diet-related causes of headaches affect the human system differently.

Thus, while one food item causes a dull headache, another may heighten pressure and bring about a burning sensation; while one food brings on headaches immediately after consumption, the other may take as long as twelve hours to show any symptoms and yet another may provoke headache on sudden withdrawal.

The most effective remedy to deal with headaches after meal is to do away with the cause, i.e. to change the food habit.

Changing the food habit essentially means the replacement of the causal foodstuffs with healthy foods. A gradual change in the food habit is sure to combat headaches after meal.
