How To Get Rid Of
Dehydration Headache?

Dehydration headache is caused due to excessive loss of water from the body.

Dehydration is basically a disease of the gastrointestinal tract. Excessive loss of body fluid can be injurious at times.

The human body requires eight glasses of water per day.

However, the amount of water required by the body varies according to age and activity.

If you drink less than the required amount of water, the ultimate consequence is dehydration and dehydration headache after that.

Unwarranted body fluid loss is caused by two major reasons. The loss of water is caused through the intestinal tract due to damage or “inflamed intestine”.

The other reason may be due to bacteria or viral infection, which compels the lining of the intestine to give access to more fluid, than what is required.

The result is acute physiological weakness and dehydration headache. At times, certain medications cause excess loss of essential body fluid.

However, in such cases both the excessive outflow of the liquid and the headache decreases once the medication is stopped.

The most common symptoms of dehydration are sudden weight loss and severe pain in the head.

Other common symptoms of dehydration are increasing thirst, sudden dry mouth, weakness or lightheadedness, the color of the urine darkens and at times, it is insufficient.

However, dehydration in severity can transform your physiological chemistry resulting in kidney failure and even death in case of some individuals.

You feel thirsty, yes exceedingly thirsty – this is the first and foremost symptom of both dehydration and dehydration headache.

The other usual signs and symptoms of both the conditions include:

  • A feeling of exhaustion and tiredness

  • A feeling of giddiness and faintness

  • An increased heart beat

  • You have a flushed and dry skin

  • You experience muscle cramps and myofascial pain

However, the most usual adverse outcome of headache caused due to dehydration is a change in skin tone or the skin becoming loose and wrinkled.

Dehydration affects the adult section of the population less when compared to infants and toddlers. Dehydration in children is a very common phenomenon leading to undesirable headaches and other physiological abnormalities.

Mary Cooper an SRD, wrote in the School Nutrition Action Group Newsletter, an excellent article that a poor hydration in children can cause thirst and dehydration headache, problem in continence and constipation, urinary tract infection, renal sores and long term renal diseases.

According to Mary Cooper, only enough fluid intake can save the little ones from severe dehydration headache and other negative consequences of frequent conditions of dehydration in children.

Apart from necessary medical consultation and ample water intake, headache caused due to dehydration can be successfully eliminated through regular exercise, postural exercise, stretching and spinal manipulation.

It is recommended that in order to prevent frequent occurrences of dehydration headache both adults and children should drink forty percent of water per hundred pounds of body weight everyday.

Athletes have an increased tendency of being dehydrated and therefore they are advised to drink a sports drink or water than fruit juice, soda, coffee or milk at the time of competition or during active training sessions.

When your body seriously lacks enough fluid content and you experience frequent incidents of dehydration headache, an herbal mixture of Rosehips, Dandelion, Liquorice, Nettle, Sage, Bach Flowers Vine, Clematis, Vervain and Wild Oat can normalize your kidney function and bring about a balance in the flow of blood in your body.

This not only helps in reducing chances of relentless dehydration headache but also helps you maintain a healthy and organized life style.
