Does Cervicogenic Headache Exercise Help?

Cervicogenic headache exercise is a form of treatment required to treat a third type of exercise headache known as cervicogenic headache.

This form of headache condition has a direct association with several problems in the muscles, joints and nerve structures virtually situated in the spine of the neck.

However, the aim of cervicogenic exercise is to provide relief from several cervical spine abnormalities.

At times during or after the completion of cervicogenic exercise the symptoms of headache may serve as a warning sign for a more serious condition. Such a severity may be an outcome of abnormality of blood vessels in the brain.

However, other causes leading to conditions of headache include a brain haemorrhage or a brain tumor.

Such conditions are genuinely rare but once they occur, they require to be treated with utmost care and attention.

People suffering from cervicogenic headache problems were divided according to four different treatment procedures.

  • Manipulative therapy group

  • Cervicogenic headache exercise group

  • Combined therapy group

  • Control group

Some of the general outcomes of these treatment procedures are a change in the regularity of headache, the intensity and the duration of the headache may also vary, the intake of medication, satisfaction of the victim and Northwick Park Neck Pain Index.

However, some of the physical symptoms of cervicogenic headache along with other specified treatments include a creniocervical, pain on neck movement, upper cervical joint tenderness and a photographic measure of posture.

Cervicogenic headache is an unbearable condition, which can in a way be relieved with the help of cervicogenic headache exercise.

The source of this headache is musculo-skeletal impairment of the upper cervical spine segments.

With the help of cervicogenic headache type exercise, the muscular imbalance is addressed by providing a form of training to the deep and postural muscles by helping them play their role of cervical and girdle stabilization.

The exercise also helps in re-educating the muscles in matters of posture and movement control.

No delays are indulged in matters of teaching these exercises to the patients and they are asked to perform the exercises as frequently as they can throughout the day.

Manipulative therapy and lighter cervicogenic headache exercise are enough to reduce the rate of recurrence and intensity of cervicogenic headache and the effects are successfully continued.
