With the application of beta blockers migraine attacks can be prevented considerably.
Migraine, a common neurogenic disease, is known to cause severe pain in the head region, forcing the victim to stay away from all activities. If you or any one within your known circle is an unfortunate victim of the disease, you know very well how painful the ailment can be. With beta blockers migraine can be prevented to a considerable extent and that is the good news that I wish to share with you in this article. Beta blockers are medicines that are used to treat a variety of ailments. There are several generic types of beta blockers. Some of them are Bisoprolol, Carvedilol, Celiprolol, Acebutalol, Atenolol, Pindolol, Sotalol, Propranolol etc. These are generic categories. All these generic categories are sold under one or more brand names. When you take beta blockers, then migraine attacks are lessened. Their severity is also toned down. These beta blockers work by blocking the transmission of certain nerve impulses. They lower blood pressure, prevent angina pains, prevent heart attacks and improve the functioning of your cardio-vascular system. It has been observed that usage of Propranolol, a type of beta blocker, can lead to reduction in the frequency, acuteness and duration of migraine attacks. The next thing you will want to know is whether beta blockers have any side effects or not. The answer is – most people have shown no noticeable side effects. However, some people tend to develop some unwarranted effects. Though with beta blockers migraine attacks can be controlled, some of the victims might experience lower heart beat rate. Some might experience dizziness also. If you are a victim of diabetes, beta blockers might prevent you from detecting the early signs of low blood sugar level. Patients of Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should not opt for beta blockers. Not withstanding its side effects, with beta blockers migraine can be treated well. Be careful not to stop intake of beta blockers suddenly once you are habituated with it. Sudden stoppage might lead to palpitations, increase in blood pressure and recurrence of angina pains. Regarding discontinuation of beta-blockers, follow your doctor’s advice strictly.
