Also known as Basilar artery migraine, Basilar migraine, and Bickerstaff syndrome, the Basilar type migraine affects our brains although it does not induce our motor weakness. The usual symptoms that occur two at a time causing sensation in brain are diplopia, concurrent bilateral nasal and temporal image alterations, hypacusia, tinnitus, dysarthria, ataxia, fear of heights, and experiencing a decreased echelon of consciousness. These above symptoms of this type of migraine along with posterior fossa tumor or malformation, urea cycle failings, and mitochondrial confusion occur and migraine accompanies these symptoms in no time, say 5 – 60 minutes. The medications that assure relief are triptans and ergotamines. To get into its root, you should do a CT Scan or MRI or an EEG and if the results are not satisfying, please feel free to seek other advices so that you become sure of BTM and not other diseases as seizure disorders, lesions of the brain, brainstem Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), abnormality of arteries, vertebrobasilar disease and notably stroke. The rear part of your head is mainly the target area of Basilar migraine; the symptoms originate from a lessening supply of blood to the parts of the brain completed by the basilar artery. You might feel nausea, and see in double vision, wobbly gait, and inaudible speech. The disease gets fearful when it increases, for the patient loses consciousness. Though the drugs suggested vary according to the patients, treatment is done separately for the reduction of immediate pain and a long-term treatment by studying your case history. The usual compounds are Scalcium channel blockers, beta blockers, vasodilators / vasoconstrictors, tricylcic antidepressants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents and tranquilizers in case of severe pain which when commences can go on for 1 to 3 days. However, the above medicines for, basilar type migraine are not devoid of side effects, so alternative non-Traditional Treatments such as Biofeedback, Meditation/progressive relaxation/massage, Acupuncture, Chiropractic, and a Cranial-sacral work can be administered.
