Abdominal Migraine
Discover The Truth

When it comes to abdominal migraine there's a lot of misinformation.

This type of migraine is rare in adults but occurs often in children, and is well recognized by the medical community.

The disease has been called by other names including periodic syndrome.
This type of migraine can directly impede the course of your daily life. In case you are prone to such a migraine attack there is chance that you would develop bouts of typical migraine headaches.

If abdominal migraine gets you, there is hardly anything that can be done to manage it. The only thing that you can do is living a stress free life that would work better than the medications. The best treatment is believed to be prevention.

This type of migraine is typically a genetic neurological disease. Those of you with a family history of migraine attacks are most likely to suffer from this disease.

The children suffering from this type of migraines have greater chances of developing typical migraine on reaching adulthood.

Symptoms Of The Condition
This type of migraine involves frequent pain in central abdomen that is usually located around the umbilicus. The pain continues for one to six hours.

The symptoms can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, irritability, diarrhea, sensitivity to light, headache (not continual) or the victim might become flushed or pale.

The pain re-occurs for the next three to four days and directly hampers the daily activities of the patient.

Some other symptoms of this migraine includes an aura, or visual disturbance which might be preceded by attack symptoms that can be numbness around the mouth, muscle weakness, flashing lights, and even paralysis.

There are certain elements that are known to trigger such migraines such as stress, cheese, chocolate, caffeine, fizzy drinks and bright flickering lights among other.

Diagnosis Of The Disease
The test can be frustrating as there is no specific test to diagnose it. Even, diagnosis can be accomplished by carrying out a detailed and careful program of observational research over time and using scans or imaging which could help in the identification of the symptoms.

In case of children, a Visual Evoked Response (VER) test should be performed for further indication of the presence of the disease.
